Healing through Simplicity

Lately I’ve been drinking just straight carrot juice. Sometimes I’ll add apples or ginger or oranges, but sometimes it’s honestly just straight carrot juice and after I drink it I feel amazing. Equally as amazing as if I had a green juice with 10 different greens in it.

When I was clearing up my acne, I reduced my skincare routine to only 3 items for about 5 years. In this window my skin FINALLY started clearing up after 15 years of cystic acne. This reduction in what I was putting on my skin in combination with a simpler plant based diet has a lot to do with my acne clearing up.

There was a time in my life that I was dedicated Ashtanga Yoga practitioner. I woke up at 5am every morning for about 3 years and devoted about 2 hours of my day to a very intense physical yoga practice. I did little else in terms of meditation or fitness. I was devoted to this practice and it was the time in my life that I was the most calm, at ease and excited I had ever been in my life.

A few months ago my sister helped me clear out my bedroom and kitchen and give away a boat load of stuff. Letting go of things that I no longer needed has left me feeling at ease in my home. Clearing out the clutter has left me with a sense of calm and ease that I definitely didn’t have before the change.

I think you see where I’m getting at. When we’re talking about healing we have to think about letting go. To truly heal (emotions, physical healing, mental healing etc) there has to be an aspect of letting go and getting yourself onto a simpler path. If we put too many distractions in our way, we lose focus and lose sight of the true goal.

During some of my years attempting to clear my skin, there was a time I was working with a dermatologist. He had me on 5 different supplements, a very thorough and long skincare regime including some antibiotics and some red light therapy. He was the most holistic and natural doctor I had found yet in my many years of seeking skin help so his more natural protocols made me feel good. However, my skin still never cleared, in fact it didn’t work at all. We were doing SO many things that my body didn’t have a chance to let go of the toxins it already had. It just had to constantly process the supplements and skincare and protocols, it couldn’t even touch on healing the built up residue that was already there! I hadn’t even changed my eating habits at that point so all I was doing was PILING on thing after thing, protocol after protocol. Even if these things were theoretically good for my body, it literally couldn’t keep up! I had no chance to REMOVE the toxic buildup and the new protocols were actually adding more toxic residue to my body.

If we could take a moment to step away from ourselves for a minute and give the body time and space to reset and believe in its own power to heal, it will start to work for us. I talk about this in the free video linked in the button below.

Eventually when i started to understand this concept and discovered detoxification, I cut back on my protocols. I ate simple plant foods that eased up my digestive energy. I removed residue from the body through colonics and enemas. I stuck to one form of exercise a few days a week that I loved. I practiced one mental health tool that worked best for me, silent meditation. And VERY quickly my skin cleared, my energy shot up, my anxiety disappeared and my excitement for life came back.

This change took a lot of mindset resetting. A lot of unlearning the things that I had heard would help me. It’s a lot work and difficult to do on your own. But it’s truly essential when starting something new and seeking real change.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you might be doing too much. How can you pull back? What can you let go of? What is distracting you from your focus? Dilution + the perfect blend

Penn + Olive makes it a priority to create products that are safe and expertly blended. Essential oils are strong and should be treated with respect. When I first got into using essential oils, it was truly confusing to me. I wanted to start a brand that not only took away that confusion but also took away any concern about their safety. Because essential oils are so strong and concentrated they have a very beneficial therapeutic gain. As with any therapy, too much of a good thing can actually begin to work against you. When you put essential oils straight onto the skin, the body uses the small amount that is needed and then filters the rest through the liver. Over time, as you use essential oils daily, this begins to build up in the body and the liver starts to get overtaxed. This extra work can be avoided just simply by diluting your essential oils with a carrier such as coconut, sunflower, grapeseed or any other type of fattier oil.

On top of that you need to know which essential oils work well together in order to create the desired outcome. Do you need more sleep? Lavender works okay, but you know what works fantastic? A very intricate and specific formula that includes lavender, cedarwood and vetiver. I spent months on every single blend I made to create the blend that worked perfect for its desired intention. One drop can change everything.

These two things: blends + necessary dilution were the two reasons Penn + Olive began. Before I studied the intricacies of essential oils, these two concepts were very daunting. I would hate for that hurtle to deter people from using such a powerful holistic plant powerhouse such as essential oils. You can always rest assured that Penn + Olive will keep you safe as every product is expertly blended and safely diluted to obtain the therapy daily.
